Chris Downey

Team Commonwealth, The South Pole Allied Challenge

Chris Downey

Every major accomplishment has one thing in common – one person who is indispensable, and who keeps the ship afloat….Vicks. When faced with all the challenges with organizing the WWTW South Pole expedition, she not only exceeded expectations, but went above and beyond the call of duty.

It was quickly apparent that she was the ‘go to’ person – she handled everything with grace and professionalism. She expertly organized travel and schedules for members all over the world, dealing with multiple time zones and personal agendas, ‘Queen Vicks’, as we affectionately named her, did it with ease.

Not a day went by that she was not consulted or needed for something, she handled media, communications, logistics and personalities. Being in the military and having served operational time, I have learned that the most successful missions are always a result of the team chosen. Starting any team with Vicks would instantly place you in the path of success. I will forever be grateful to her for all that she has done and she will remain at the very top of my list for Expedition Manager of future endeavours.

I knew instinctively that it was the very hardness of life in the desert which drew me back there – it was the same pull which takes men back to the polar ice, to high mountains, and to the sea.
